Developing Your Own Business

Around 2010, the Harvard Discovery on success, according research conducted by the University shows that the major reason for success in life is a particular attitude of the mind. Everything begins in the mind, whether it is success or failure.

It is your value system that makes you to invest or spend. The best way to get your own share of the vast resources of Nigeria is by establishing your own business. The truth is that most people confuse their job with their business. That you work in the bank doesn’t make you a banker. Yes, banking may be your profession, but not your business.

Yes money is needed to fund business but money is not the key factor in developing or building your own business. According to Dan Lok, money doesn’t go to those that needs it but those who multiples it. Follow the path of investment.

In developing your own business focus on product, processes and people. Learn this before jumping into your own business. Pay attention to details - that is what is called Excellent. If you want to make money focus attention on these points below:

1.      People

2.      Problem

3.      Product

4.      Talent

5.      Skill

People are your greatest assets. Focus on building quality relationship, very important. Discover a need or problem and proffer solution but this can’t be achieved without the right skills.

Work as an apprentice. An apprentice is someone who is being trained by a skilled professional in an art, craft, or trade. Apprenticeship is the fastest route out of unemployment. Work for free; focus on acquiring relevant skills not money. Skill makes all the difference.

Learn the business side of the job you're doing now. It will be relevant tomorrow. That you can fly a plane doesn’t mean you can run an airline. Skill enables you to develop your own business

It doesn't matter what you studied in the university, go out there and acquire a skill. Use it to solve human problems, and money shall locate you.

At the beginning of this sub-title, I made mention of success being a thing of the mind. Look at these two sets of population in the world, the 2% and 98% Mindset:

2% of the POPULATION:

·         Confidence

·         Exploring new things

·         Choosing happiness

·         Fulfillment

·         Getting the most out of life

·         Act in spite of fear

·         Living without limits

·         Liking change

·         Excitement

98% of the POPULATION:

·         Being like everyone else

·         Insecure

·         Surviving

·         Fear just getting by

·         A dull life

·         Play it safe

·         Procrastination

·         Regret

·         Settling for less

Where do you belong to in the above two sets of population? I know someone will say that he has tried so many times to start up and it didn't work. Maybe you started a business, ventured into a career path, pursued your dream, yet it seems you have done nothing. There is no harm, try again and again till you achieve your aim. Don’t quit, “winners don’t quit, quitters don’t winner.”

Also, I believe that someone reading this will say what happens when one had put in his best and nothing happens? Don't give up!

You should rather try these 3R's:

 2. Reflect

 3. Re-emerge

In between 1 and 3 refuel and refocus. You will definitely get it right. It is a matter of persistence and time. Sharpen your mindset to belief in vision and dream. No one else will do that for you. You know what? In the election of life, even if everyone should vote for you, if you don't vote for yourself you can't win.
